Around this time last year I wrote 3 posts about Hollyoaks what I’d disliked, liked and then some random stuff. Over a year later, and with the biggest production overhaul they’ve had in 8 years with Lucy Allan taking over as executive producer from Bryan Kirkwood, I’ve decided to do three again in the same format. Hollyoaks can be a very good show when they put their minds to it, and here are some things recently that I think they’ve done well.

Hollyoaks 2020-Mid 2021: Things I’ve Disliked

I’ve been watching a lot of Hollyoaks in the last few years, and I got even more into it during the Covid lockdowns. There are going to be some production changes for the soap very soon, so I thought I’d talk about the last year or so up to now, and I’m going to do it as a sort of three course meal! We’re going to have a bitter Starter (things I’ve disliked), a Main Course of what I felt worked well (i.e things I’ve liked), and a Dessert of random stuff about the show.

So, let’s go right in with the negative stuff:

Hollyoaks New Year’s Eve 2020

Hollyoaks did an ambitious flashforward episode in their last episode of 2019, showing what the village would be like a year from then. The pay-off for that finally came with the events of New Year’s Eve 2020 told over two half hour episodes and one hour long one. OK, I swear I’m not going to keep posting little things about Hollyoaks every month or so, but I am going to comment on a couple of interesting episodes they’ve done recently, namely the Flashforward one and Hollyoaks Later.
